This piece was inspired by my many “off grid” roadtrips around Sri Lanka’s hill country. Some enterprising people got together and created the Pecoe Trail - a set of hiking trails all around Sri Lanka. Stage 18 of the trail brings you through a particularly beautiful area of tea estates. As you walk the trail, you wander in and out of little hillside communities. If you keep sweets in your pockets, especially chocolates, the children along the trail are more than happy to lighten your load of them!!
